Athens International Airport handled 4.03 million passengers in August 2026, marking the first time monthly traffic has exceeded the 4 million threshold. Passenger numbers increased 3.7% year-on-year, compared with 3.88 million passengers in August 2025. Domestic traffic reached 1.15 million passengers, up 2.4%.
Between January and August 2026, Athens International Airport handled 23.71 million passengers, compared with 22.71 million during the same period last year, a growth of 4.4%. Domestic passenger traffic increased 4.3% to 6.74 million, while international traffic rose 4.4% to 16.97 million.
Flight movements rise 3.9%
The number of flights also increased during the period. Athens Airport recorded 198,571 flights between January and August, up 3.9% from 191,165 a year earlier. Domestic flights increased 4.8% to 79,290, while international flights rose 3.2% to 119,281.
In August alone, the airport handled 32,799 flights, up 4.1% compared with 31,503 in August 2025. Domestic movements increased 5.7% to 13,733, while international flights rose 3% to 19,066.
