Greece’s tourism sector hits record high with EUR 21.6 billion in revenue for 2024

Greece’s tourism sector reached new heights in 2024, welcoming a record 40,7 million international visitors and generating EUR 21.6 billion in travel revenue, according to the latest data released by the Bank of Greece.

In addition to the surge in tourist arrivals, the travel services balance – the difference between tourism receipts and related expenditures – posted a surplus of EUR 18.79 billion, a year-on-year increase of 3,4%. Tourism accounts for roughly 20% of the country’s GDP and supports one in five jobs.

Last year, approximately 5,4 million tourists came from Germany, and spent EUR 3.7 billion (+3.5% from 2023). Tourists from UK followed, with around 4.5 million travelers that spent 3.2 billion euros (-3.7%). Approximately 2 million tourists came from France, spending EUR 1.3 billion (-11.4%).

Also, 2 million tourists came from Italy and spent EUR 1.2 billion (+13.6%), 1.5 million arrived from United States and spent 1.6 billion (+15.1%), 3 million tourists came from Bulgaria, and around 1 million each from Romania and Serbia.
