A frustrating experience at a friend’s coffee shop sparked the idea for BibeCoffee, the Greek startup that collects data from tens of thousands of coffee machines around the world.

Founded in 2019 by Vasilis Apostolopoulos, Panos Vrettos and Kostas Sigalas, the company uses telemetry to solve a core problem in the professional coffee industry: lack of visibility into machine performance and brew quality.

Chief Product & Marketing Officer Sissy Tsiontsi told Capital.gr that the founders spotted a black box in coffee operations. Parameters such as flow rates, extraction times, water and energy use, and cleaning routines were often unchecked, leading to inconsistent quality and reliance on human factors.

Data-driven coffee

BibeCoffee’s solution is a device that connects to any professional coffee machine, grinding equipment or water system, pulling real-time data on brewing, consumption and location via GPS.

Thus, it allows roasters, chains, distributors and manufacturers to standardize recipes, spot fraud or dilution, predict maintenance needs and ensure every cup meets brand standards.

The platform is working with 75% of global models without major upgrades. It has grown to more than 25,000 connected machines across 29 countries, including the U.S., UAE and Saudi Arabia, and raised €1.2 million in prior rounds, with a new funding round under consideration.

From Greece to global

Headquartered abroad but operationally based in Greece with a 25-person team, BibeCoffee is doubling down on AI for predictive maintenance, energy tracking and sustainability metrics. It is also exploring expansion into ice cream machines, beer systems and more, building on its coffee telemetry core.
