It’s not unusual for a Greek food company to double export sales in five years. But doing so by selling Mexican-style snacks, nachos and tortillas made in Viotia, rather than olives or feta, sets El Sabor apart.
The family-run snack producer, founded in 1992 and the only nacho manufacturer in Greece and southeastern Europe, has quietly built an international footprint spanning 60 markets, from Italy and Hungary to Canada and Japan.
In 2024, El Sabor’s turnover rose 5.3% to €34.1 million, with exports jumping 8.8% to €19.3 million, more than double their 2020 level. International sales now account for 56.6% of total revenue, up from 54.8% in 2023. Domestic sales remained nearly flat at €14.8 million.
Gross profit surged 19.5% to €10.64 million, while net profit rose 23.3% to €2.28 million.
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) climbed 20.8% to €3.87 million, lifting the gross margin to 31.2% from 27.5% a year earlier.
Investing for scale
El Sabor completed a €4.5 million investment program in 2024, adding a third production line that raises capacity to 3 tons per hour, ranking it second among European nacho producers. The expansion enables the company to enter the private-label segment.
Profitability was supported by a €530,987 tax exemption under development law 4399/2016 for the new Viotia plant. The total tax benefit amounts to €2.16 million, of which €1.68 million has been utilized.
