Greece’s airports are experiencing another strong summer, with passenger traffic on a steady upward trajectory across the country’s main aviation gateways. All airports reported solid increases in July and in the January–July 2025 period.
At Athens International Airport ”Eleftherios Venizelos”, passenger traffic rose 4.9% year-on-year in July, reaching 3.76 million travelers. International traffic grew by 5.4%, while domestic volumes edged up 1.2%. Over the first seven months of the year, Athens handled 18.83 million passengers, a 7% increase, driven mainly by international routes (+8.9%).
The airport’s expansion continues in parallel, with major investments underway: a seven-story parking facility with 3,500 spaces and 32 new aircraft stands are set to boost capacity and service efficiency.
Fraport Greece’s 14 regional airports welcomed 6.57 million passengers in July, up 2.4% from last year, while the January–July total climbed to 19.52 million (+2.1%). Rhodes, Chania, and Corfu delivered standout performances, with some routes seeing July growth of up to 4.7%.
Despite moderate passenger gains, Fraport Greece posted robust financial results in the first half of 2025. Revenues rose 7% to €215.1 million, EBITDA stood at €78.5 million, and net profit nearly doubled to €4.3 million. International traffic at its airports grew 2.8% to 9.5 million passengers, surpassing 2019 levels by nearly 19%.
Thessaloniki’s “Makedonia” Airport also posted strong momentum, with traffic up 7.3% in the first seven months to 4.36 million passengers. July was particularly strong, with 882,656 travelers (+7.9%), driven by international demand (+10.9%). Flights increased 6% year-to-date.
Meanwhile, airports under HCAA management—including Heraklion, Kalamata, Alexandroupolis, and several islands—saw a 6.5% rise in passenger traffic in January–July, reaching 6.63 million travelers, compared to 6.23 million in 2024.
