Greek business turnover rises 1.6% in 2025, mining and education lead growth

Total turnover for all businesses and economic activities in Greece increased by 1.6% in 2025, reaching €492.06 billion, up from €484.46 billion in 2024, according to data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

The strongest annual growth was recorded in Mining and Quarrying, where turnover rose by 11.2% compared with 2024. The Education sector followed with an 8.9% increase. At the opposite end of the spectrum, businesses operating in Public Administration and Defence, including compulsory social security, reported a decline of 11.6%.

Fourth quarter maintains positive momentum

In the fourth quarter of 2025, total turnover for all businesses amounted to €129.44 billion, marking a 1.4% increase compared with the same period in 2024, when turnover stood at €127.63 billion.

Education recorded the strongest quarterly performance, with turnover rising by 15.6% year-on-year. Meanwhile, the largest decline was observed in Real Estate Management, where turnover fell by 9.3% compared with the fourth quarter of 2024.

December acceleration signals year-end boost

For businesses required to maintain double-entry accounting books, for which monthly data are available, turnover in December 2025 reached €39.37 billion. This represents a 4.6% increase compared with December 2024, when turnover totaled €37.64 billion.

Mining and Quarrying once again led monthly growth, with turnover surging by 16.8% year-on-year in December. In contrast, Public Administration and Defence, including compulsory social security, recorded the steepest monthly decline at 10.6%.
