Fourlis is moving ahead with an aggressive investment plan despite a tough retail environment, focusing on smaller IKEA stores and a broader Foot Locker rollout. The plan includes 10 to 12 new Foot Locker stores, with a new shop already under construction in Glyfada. More openings are lined up for Volos, Lamia, Kallithea and Nea Erythraia.
New Foot Locker stores begin generating positive numbers immediately, with operating margins of 6% to 7% in the first year and the potential for better performance as the stores mature.
IKEA goes smaller
For IKEA, Fourlis is betting on smaller-format stores in regional markets. The new model introduced in Rhodes is being treated as a pilot for further expansion, as the group looks to fill geographic gaps with stores that better match local demand.
Planned smaller IKEA stores in Kalamata and Corfu will not open in 2026. Instead, Fourlis wants to secure the properties this year and bring the stores online in the first half of 2027, avoiding pre-opening costs in 2026.
Network upgrades
The company is also upgrading its IKEA stores in Plovdiv and Limassol into next-generation formats. Meanwhile, the landmark project in Ellinikon remains in the pipeline for 2029.
Intersport is developing on two fronts: deeper partnerships with major brands and a stronger focus on football. New Football Club Stores are one example, while the group’s exclusive cooperation with the Greek Football Federation is expanding into professional teams and academies.
Spending and savings
Total retail investment this year is expected to reach about €25 million, including €4 million for maintenance, €6 million for digital transformation and the rest for network expansion. Another €2 million will go toward completing the new logistics center, bringing the full investment budget close to €27 million.
